“This is an economy in which the central question is no longer what a system produces, but what it becomes capable of producing, sustaining, and adapting over time.
cancerous distraction.. not getting to root of problem
legit freedom will only happen if it’s all of us.. and in order to be all of us.. has to be sans any form of measuring, accounting, people telling other people what to do
so need an econ sans any form of m\a\p
ie: oikos (the economy our souls crave).. ‘i should say: the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.’ – gaston bachelard, the poetics of space
This shift can be seen in places that, at first glance, appear quite different. Regenerative agriculture offers one of the clearest expressions. Instead of maximizing yield through the application of external inputs, it seeks to restore soil health, water cycles, biodiversity, and farmer capability. The aim is not only to produce food, but to build a system that becomes more fertile, resilient, and adaptive with each cycle. Value is generated not just in the harvest, but in the regeneration of the underlying conditions of production. .t
need to get to deeper underlying conditions .. beyond production ness.. ie: to the root of problem.. otherwise we’ll keep perpetuating the same song.. the whac-a-mole-ing ness of sea world.. of not-us ness.. of part\ial ness.. perpetuating survival triage.. for (blank)’s sake..
At the other end of the spectrum, we see similar logics emerging in advanced industrial and technological systems. Consider recent moves toward vertically integrated manufacturing infrastructures, such as Elon Musk’s announcement of large-scale in-house chip fabrication capacity. While not “regenerative” in the ecological sense, these systems are recursive. They aim to internalize and continuously improve the means of production, reducing dependency on fragile supply chains and accelerating learning cycles. The investment is not only in producing chips, but in building a system that can redesign and upgrade its own production capabilities over time. .t
makes no diff how efficient/accelerated/productive/upgraded.. et al.. if not org-ing around legit needs
What unites these examples is not their domain, but their underlying economic logic. They are not primarily investing in outputs. They are investing in the capacity to generate outputs more intelligently, resiliently, and adaptively in the future.
again.. not deep enough to go beyond same song.. so just perpetuating survival triage
This marks perhaps a profound shift in what we understand value to be.”
perhaps what we need most is to let go of ‘understanding’ ness .. graeber can’t know law et al

The Economy of Becoming: Why Recursive and Regenerative Systems Are the Only Way Forward (march 2026)
they’re not deep enough to get to root of problem.. so will just perpetuate same song
legit freedom will only happen if it’s all of us.. and in order to be all of us.. has to be sans any form of measuring, accounting, people telling other people what to do
The problem is not simply that the system produces harm. It is that it is structurally incapable of regenerating the conditions on which it depends.
actually not the root of problem.. what we need most/first is a means/mech to get at the energy of 8b alive people
what we need is a means to facil people.. so that they can regen (whatever word you want) what they need..
in order for that to happen.. we need to know what we legit need.. so we need global detox first/most.. and luckily now.. there’s a legit use of tech (nonjudgmental exponential labeling) to facil the seeming chaos of a global detox leap/dance.. for (blank)’s sake.
the thing we’ve not yet tried/seen: the unconditional part of left to own devices ness
[‘in an undisturbed ecosystem ..the individual left to its own devices.. serves the whole’ –dana meadows]
ie: whatever for a year.. a legit sabbatical ish transition
again.. otherwise we’ll keep perpetuating the same song.. the whac-a-mole-ing ness of sea world.. of not-us ness.. of part\ial ness.. perpetuating survival triage.. for (blank)’s sake..
*What is emerging in response is not a minor adjustment, but a paradigmatic shift. We are moving from an economy organized around input-output efficiency to one organized around recursive developmental capacity. **This is an economy in which the central question is no longer what a system produces, but what it becomes capable of producing, sustaining, and adapting over time.
*this is not a legit p shift.. not legit diff..
**again.. what we need most/1st is an econ org’d around legit needs
This marks perhaps a profound shift in what we understand value to be.
again.. not legit ‘profound’ for ie: mufleh humanity law; life over survival ness; the dance.. rather.. just an iteration of same song.. if still any form of m\a\p
This is where the question of optionality becomes central.
yeah.. but we’re still blinded to legit ‘options’.. ie: there’s a nother way
A recursive developmental system, by contrast, expands optionality. Because it invests in learning, adaptability, and regenerative capacity, it increases the range of futures it can navigate. It does not merely prepare for known scenarios. It builds the ability to respond to unknown ones.
but not enough.. still a finite set of choices of decision making.. which is unmooring us
This has profound implications for how we build and allocate capital.
if we want to stay in sea world
hari rat park law et al
In the traditional model, capital is allocated to projects, assets, and outputs. Returns are measured in terms of yield, growth, and financial performance. In the emerging model, capital must increasingly be allocated to systems that build capacity. This includes infrastructures of sensing, learning, coordination, and regeneration. It includes ecological restoration, but also institutional design, technological feedback systems, and social capability building.
The question shifts from “what will this produce?” to “what will this make possible?”
again.. but the deeper question needs to be about conditions to org around legit needs
making a diff version of same song is a cancerous distraction
*This requires a different investment logic. **It requires patience, because developmental capacity compounds over time. ***It requires new forms of measurement, because not all value can be captured in immediate metrics. And it requires new institutional forms, because few existing structures are designed to hold and govern this kind of value.
*perhaps let’s try/code money (any form of measuring/accounting/people telling other people what to do) as the planned obsolescence.. where legit needs are met w/o money.. till people forget about measuring..ie: sabbatical ish transition
**not if we org around legit needs from the get go.. something every heart already craves.. for (blank)’s sake
***literacy and numeracy both elements of colonialism/control/enclosure.. we need to calculate differently and stop measuring things
*It also requires a shift in mindset. We must move from thinking of the economy as a machine that produces goods to thinking of it as a **living system that produces capability.
*yes that.. and we have the means to do that in an instant.. via a global detox leap
**rather.. a living system that frees everyone to dance
again.. the thing we’ve not yet tried/seen: the unconditional part of left to own devices ness
[‘in an undisturbed ecosystem ..the individual left to its own devices.. serves the whole’ –dana meadows]
This is the paradigmatic leap now underway.
and again.. not legit paradigmatic.. not a legit leap.. not deep enough to get to root of problem
we need a problem deep enough to resonate w/8b today.. via a mechanism simple enough to be accessible/usable to 8b today.. in an ecosystem open enough to set/keep 8b legit free
ie: org around a problem deep enough (aka: org around legit needs) to resonate w/8b today.. via a mechanism simple enough (aka: tech as it could be) to be accessible/usable to 8b today.. and an ecosystem open enough (aka: sans any form of m\a\p) to set/keep 8b legit free
findings from on the ground ness:
1\ undisturbed ecosystem (common\ing) can happen
2\ if we create a way to facil the seeming chaos of 8b legit free people
We are no longer simply investing in the conversion of inputs into outputs. We are investing in the recursive capacity of systems to regenerate and develop themselves. We are allocating not only to production, but to the conditions of production. Not only to outcomes, but to the capacities that make outcomes possible.
and again.. we need to invest in the energy of 8b alive people
humanity needs a leap.. to get back/to simultaneous spontaneity .. simultaneous fittingness.. everyone in sync.. the dance
*Importantly the emerging shift is not the disappearance of input-output economics. All sub-systems still require inputs and generate outputs. The deeper change is that input-output is no longer the primary locus of value. It becomes the means through which a system operates, while the central value additionality moves to the recursive and regenerative capacities of the system itself: its ability to learn, adapt, repair, restore, and deepen the conditions of future viability. In this sense, the economy of the future is not post-production, but post the primacy of production as the sole site of value.
*yeah.. this is huge.. because it means will just keep otherwise we’ll keep perpetuating the same song.. the whac-a-mole-ing ness of sea world.. of not-us ness.. of part\ial ness.. perpetuating survival triage.. for (blank)’s sake..
note: on survival ness: survival is a means to survive things as they are.. so to me.. not a legit alt.. it’s triage.. perpetuating survival triage.. so a temp band aide per se.. that will /can help now.. but only for short term.. because it still doesn’t get to the root of the problem.. so it won’t offer/lead-to legit change/life/freedom.. et al.. so.. to me.. it’s still a cancerous distraction to the dance
The economics of the future will be defined by how well we can design, finance, and govern these systems of becoming.
we need a legit diff system of becoming ness.. ie: the dance
This is why recursive systems are, at root, learning systems. Their strategic advantage lies not only in productive efficiency, but in the speed and quality with which they can *register signals, interpret them, adapt their behavior, and reorganize their own operation.
*cancerous distractions to the dance
how we gather in a space is huge.. need to try spaces of permission where people have nothing to prove to facil curiosity over decision making.. because the finite set of choices of decision making is unmooring us.. keeping us from us..
ie: imagine if we listen to the itch-in-8b-souls 1st thing everyday & use that data to connect us (tech as it could be.. ai as augmenting interconnectedness)
This changes the role of governance. *In a conventional system, governance often exists to ensure compliance with a predetermined plan. In a recursive system, governance must also steward learning. **It must create the conditions under which feedback can be heard, interpreted, and acted upon. It must balance discipline with revisability. It must protect the integrity of the system while allowing the system to change. In that sense, ***governance becomes less about enforcing static order and more about maintaining a dynamic capacity for self-correction and developmental coherence.
*to me.. steward learning ness is same song as compliancing.. just a seemingly kinder form of people telling other people what to do
**’feedback’ we need most.. is what is already on each heart
need means (nonjudgmental expo labeling) to undo hierarchical listening – so we can hear what’s already on each heart as global detox in order to org around legit needs
***both same song
Seen this way, the financing of recursive systems becomes one of the defining economic questions of our time.
to me.. most humane ‘fin of system’ is to try e: whatever for a year.. a legit sabbatical ish transition
otherwise we’ll keep perpetuating the same song.. the whac-a-mole-ing ness of sea world.. of not-us ness.. of part\ial ness.. perpetuating survival triage.. for (blank)’s sake..
*The task, then, is not only to fund what a system does. It is to fund what allows a system to improve what it does, to repair the conditions that make it possible, and to deepen its capacity to respond to futures that cannot yet be fully known. **That is the shift. And it means that learning itself, organized recursively and financed seriously, ***becomes a central economic variable.
*first need to know what legit needs/wants/itches are.. otherwise **not a legit shift
***rather.. perpetuates same song
