interreflections
InterReflections, Official Film Trailer. By Peter Joseph (2020)
InterReflections is an experimental, mixed genre narrative feature film by Peter Joseph, adapted from his book The New Human Rights Movement. The ambitious, nearly 3 hour work challenges not only contemporary thinking about society, it challenges the very art of filmmaking itself with an unprecedented avant-garde style. Taking place in three time frames, the through-line is connected by the story of Concordia, a hacktivist organization comprised of high-ranking military defectors from around the world. They seek to stop further destabilization of the world in the mid 21st century by strategically shifting technological focus from “weaponry” to “livingry”.

notes/quotes from 3 hr film:
opens w mad world.. lab theme song – when people run in circles it’s a very mad world.. children waiting for the day they feel good.. sit and listen.. no one knew me.. look right thru me.. the dreams in which i’m dying are the best i’ve ever had..
4 min – 1798 – thomas malthus quote – ‘.. but above all.. we should reprobate specific remedies for ravaging diseases; and those benevolent but much mistaken men.. who have thought they were doing a service to mankind by projecting schemes for the total extirpation of particular disorders’
reprobate: feel disapproval of
extirpation: root out and destroy
7 min – 1970 b fuller: ‘what i call now the world game.. started w being in us navy.. investment of all science/math.. and i was shocked that it was only going in this negative thing of killing.. extraordinary tech.. but not used for success.. thomas malthus was servant of those in charge at that time.. ‘man is supposed to be a failure’ .. at that time 90% of world illit at that time.. said.. what we can do.. because people are ignorant.. they think they have hope.. kindest thing to do is to let them die in ignorance and hope’
11 min – concordia ness on news.. john taylor (leader) captured.. simon devau tells story – ‘formed by cyber war experts.. theft of warfare tech.. enjoy being disruptive.. legions of followers.. is troubling.. this robin hood savior appeal of concordia is a mistake.. so i encourage to regain trust in demo ness’
candids interviewing:
14 min – malikan soyenka.. prof of history .. columbia uni
15 min – cynthia floris.. sysetm econ prof .. capetown uni
16 min – aleniya demir.. epidemiologist (physical mental health).. uni of istanbul
vivian marcella.. socio cultural biologist.. try to understand synergies of human behavior
marshall mcluhan: ‘there is absolutely no inevitability.. so long as there is a willingness to contemplate what is happening’
voluntary compliance – marshall mcluhan
malikan: 1st yr students activity.. find periods gave no priority to regen science or public health.. seen as external to ‘business’
17 min – cynthia: have entire global civilization .. powering itself thru the mech of consuming.. endlessly/viciously repeating
vivian: to make matters worse.. the system was rooted in strategic human exploitation.. which structurally ensure large wealth/power diff’s between groups.. and the long term cultural result was very poor social integrity.. to socioeconomic ineq.. and when you put it all together.. you realize it’s a deep social pathology.. pushing civilization toward oblivion
whalespeak – jensen civilization law
18 min – aleniya: by time 21st cent.. consequences not subtle.. obvious to us today.. but back then huge indoctrination.. so engaged in superficial activism
19 min – malikan: attempts at social change was so shallow.. because people didn’t understand cause/effect.. to whole thing became a spectacle.. a blame game between groups.. a so call demo process (elections) .. a true democracy as we now know allows for public consensus on actual issues.. not the appointment of reps to make those decisions form them.. that’s a watered down version of authoritarianism
dang peter.. so hope you’re going deeper than this.. talk about same song ness.. decision making itself is unmooring us.. public consensus always oppresses someone(s).. we have to let go of any form of m\a\p.. any form of democratic admin
cynthia: and to add insult to injury .. because society was rooted in this business (wall st) system of property trade.. everything was for sale.. those in wealth were those in power.. and so least likely to want to change system
20 min – aleniya: tech increased efficiency and masked anti demo society.. integrity bought off by addictions
i think cynthia: on bs jobs et al
21 min – (back and forth to simulated story) – this one showing the horror just describe.. bs job .. time flashing by.. clock stopping.. chained business men walking around.. police-ish/leader .. shooting random people working at computers.. till she gets fired
25 min – malikan.. problem.. all based on slavery.. can’t have hierarchy.. (and expect integrity/health)
can’t have any form of people telling other people what to do.. any form of m\a\p
cynthia: cost efficiency – core of econ.. center of slavery.. debt et al
we need to let go of money (any form of measuring/accounting) .. otherwise same song.. ‘when people run in circles it’s a very mad world’
26 min – vivian: average person still didn’t see the connection.. blinded by free market ideas.. because people could now choose job/company/exploitation.. somehow coercion no longer existed.. that was the illusion
aleniya: structural forcing everyone to fight.. not a free society.. but one of oppression.. no matter how much wealth
27 min – simulation story – anarchists returning civ to stone ages
36 min – malikan – clarifying meaning of book title – the neolithic mal adaptation – i think the defining question of civilization is what characteristics enable us to survive and prosper sustainably and peacefully over generational time
need to be org’d around something 8b people already crave.. ie: maté basic needs.. a nother way
37 min – malikan: to make a long story short.. humans are not meant to exist in an economically stratified society ..if the expectations are high levels of public health and peaceful existence
not meant to exist where there is any form of m\a\p
vivian: it’s always interesting to review work of mainstream scientists at the turn of the 20th cent
part of our problem.. we keep sucking our energy (spinning our wheels) w history ness and research ness.. which just amounts to observing the whales and analyzing the whalespeak
38 min – aleniya: if we’ve proven to be anything.. it’s adaptable.. what most determines this is social structure.. or more specifically.. that structures econ basis
we need to let go of any form of m\a\p..
ie: oikos (the economy our souls crave).. ‘i should say: the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.’ – gaston bachelard, the poetics of space
cynthia: on doing/being what society rewards
m: so what i mean by maladaptation.. we did adapt.. but the resulting social structure/system.. proved maladaptive..
39 min – v: we are social beings first and intellectual beings second
40 min – c: what you see back then is a kind of mass hypnosis that paralyzed society.. keeping people short sighted and fearful.. prone to conform to the practices of those who appear to be winning in the econ game
go back further.. go deeper..
a: reading k quote: no measure of health to be well in sick society
m: so once again begs the question.. what actually defines success in the human condition
we don’t want to define success.. what we need is a means to hear/be all the flavors of success
41 min – v: the result.. the values were dead wrong..
a: true success if reinforcing harmony/balance.. find out who and what you truly are.. *then onto ‘the true winners are the ones’
has to be all of us .. or the dance won’t dance.. so.. humanity needs a means to leap.. to get back/to simultaneous spontaneity .. simultaneous fittingness.. everyone in sync..
ie:
imagine if we just focused on listening to the itch-in-8b-souls.. first thing.. everyday.. and used that data to augment our interconnectedness.. we might just get to a more antifragile, healthy, thriving world.. the ecosystem we keep longing for..
what the world needs most is the energy of 8b alive people
c: worst is the spiritual loss of each individual.. what the system requires them to become..
yeah.. so we need a means for 8b people to get back/to that fittingness
43 min – simulated story – ‘greatest form of social control – inclusion – and that is why the masses will never break out’
58 min – v: on why we’re wired for social response.. solitary confinement caused brain damage..et al.. econ stratified society one of most toxically stressful conditions you could ever impose on the human species
59 min – m: ineq harms everyone
c: everyday battle to make ends meet.. relative poverty.. high psycho social stress
1:00 – a: general insecurity.. but also social status.. we have an acute sensitivity to our social status
v: equally about the stress of feeling poor
but equity econ is not the answer.. it’s the measuring things that’s killing us.. not the ineq
1:02 – m: on life span gaps between rich/poor
c: then mental health.. higher in poverty
m: children living in poverty.. lower iq.. any society that allows poverty when have means to reduce it.. is a society that is abusive to children
yeah.. but again.. deeper than people having things
1:03 – a: ineq produces shame.. the more ineq.. the more violent a society
c: ineq increases.. all (bad things) increase
m: humans are basically allergic to socio econ stratification
deeper – we are ‘allergic’ to any form of m\a\p
1:06 – story simulation .. 1:13 – on activism being a means of temp comfort.. actions have posed no true threat.. just given people hope.. no threat to the system itself.. actually providing more excuse for more control.. no conspiracy needed.. 1:16 – a critical mass large enough to stop the system in its tracks is all that’s needed.. (simon & john)
1:21 – m: in the end it was the environ scientists.. if habitat goes.. everything else becomes mute
1:22 – c: most common question i get ‘how is it possible things could get so bad.. people blindly pulling levers.. on econ machine.. comes down to a faith based conditioning.. the doctrine of universal scarcity.. people taught econ balance could exist
that’s mute.. we need to let go of econ as any form of m\a\p
1:23 – v: one thing to consume based on need.. another because the system demands it
what we need though.. is to get back/to legit basic needs ie: a nother way
1:24 – c: on technocracy making things cheaper and people working less hours.. makes sense in terms of supply/demand.. that’s not the way it played out.. nor would it ever
only because we’re not listening deep enough to/for legit needs.. if any form of m\a\p.. not going to work out..
1:25 – m: on system level perspective.. commercial ads on more propaganda
a: what advertising does is abuse our social nature.. by making people feel like they’re missing out.. they’re not good enough w/o this/that.. feel excluded form others if they don’t own something.. hideous feedback loop
lots does that.. what we need is a means for people to be grounded in their fittingness first.. ie: brown belonging law et al.. ie: imagine if we listening to the itch-in-8b-souls.. first thing everyday.. and used that data to augment our interconnectedness
1:26 – c: as a result.. people worked more than ever.. had less free time.. in staggering amounts of debt.. lower standard of living..
v: entire machine needed infinite consumption to work..
a: bottom line.. this wasn’t an econ at all.. this was an anti econ.. nothing working to balance..
1:28 – m: truly positive econ metrics are the opposite of what was sought..
‘truly positive econ metrics’ are just as cancerous.. let go.. any form of m\a\p
1:29 – c: ads were telling people.. we need you to take on more loans.. make things impossible to repair.. to buy and throw away at ever increasing rate..
1:30 – peter: shifting gears to talk about group identity
identity ness.. – marsh label law et al.. red flag
a: on us/them ness.. baseball caps/teams.. *we have a propensity to divide society up and make judgments
*whales do
1:31 – m: diff environ exposures around the world.. then mix.. messy.. people trying to stop group oppression..
1:32 – v: side effect.. many chose to embrace the group id.. and define themselves by it.. by these social constructs. .ie: white/black/jewish.. et al
1:33 – a: the moment you go from the practice of something.. to i am this or i am that.. is the moment you draw dangerous lines thru the species.. id by label is fundamentally elitist and bigotist by nature
siddiqi border law.. constant line law.. binary ness.. et al
what we need.. nationality: human and discrimination as equity
1:34 – v: only one race.. the human race.. and to separate self any further .. leads to nothing positive
1:35 – simulated story and ongoing debate – simon and john *1:46: john: not going back going forward.. we’ve been trapped in this immature stage too long.. children when asked what they want to be when the grow up.. say rich and famous.. **1:48 – soc of sp quote: ‘the more he id’s w the dominant images of need.. the less he understand his own life and his own desires.. gestures are no longer his own.. they are the gestures of someone else who rep’s them to him’.. ‘the spectacle is the nightmare of imprisoned modern society which ultimately expresses nothing more than its desire to sleep.. the spectacle is the ***guardian of sleep‘
*oi.. so off on that john joseph.. more hari rat park law.. levels of maturity ness.. is whalespeak
**society of spectacle ref’s – to that quote.. that’s our biggest time suck.. org-ing around non legit needs.. since none of us are us.. let’s org around legit needs.. ie: a nother way.. let’s go that deep peter
***rather.. guardian of sea world
1:50 – ‘money is a new form of slavery.. distinguishable form the old simply by the fact that it is impersonal.. that there is no human relation between master and slave’ – leo tolstoy
peter: let’s go back to the subject of ineq.. this time to understand the mechanics of oppression.. how hierarchy was put into place
(banks making money out of nothing.. loans.. but really not a loan.. but credit backed by debt.. how money was brought into existence.. interest.. a system of org’d theft.. et al)
1:57 – m: slavery wasn’t abolished until debt was abolished
1:58 – m: one ie sticks out to me.. omar padillo .. won largest state lottery ever in 2037.. decided to use money to solve poverty.. ‘taking 75 000 off streets in la.. but poverty much deeper.. was hoping those who have more would be inspired.. true source of poverty.. our social system.. continues to go on unaddressed.. little progress to be found.. spiritual poverty.. grows greediness.. the wealthy of this world.. are sick.. the time for tolerance is over.. they are symbols of violence.. and until that violence ends.. there will be no peace on this planet’
deeper man
2:04 – simulated story and ongoing j&s debate.. 2:10 – mathusean mandate is to not get in the way of the system
2:15 – m: on figuring out how to get energy w/o damaging the environ
c: i look at capitalism as an adolescent stage in the growth of civilization.. let’s let loose and have people be selfish w no regard for consequences.. and we learned a lot.. w/o this phase we wouldn’t have been able to amplify what really makes us unique as a species.. then goes on thru stages of cultural revolution thru knowledge
dang.. so off guys.. adolescence ness et al
2:16 – a: so the great question becomes.. how do we optimize the power of our group mind to increase knowledge and solve problems.. how do we harness our diff talents/skills to bring out our best potential.. as a civ
oi.. not about knowledge and solving problems.. or best potential even.. it’s about the dance.. let’s get back/to that
2:17 – a: the true measure of econ progress is simply doing more w less.. efficiency.. the ability to do something for a given purpose.. better in utility and reducing energy/hrs-of-work.. which means.. it all comes down to design
oi.. red flags
2:18 – c: there had to be a way to bridge minds to solve problems
let go
m: i think the smartest thing we ever did as a society was the adoption of an open source shared resource commons.. it catapulted our problem solving creativity
let’s go way deeper.. not about problem solvig
mufleh humanity law: we have seen advances in every aspect of our lives except our humanity– Luma Mufleh
1\ undisturbed ecosystem (common\ing) can happen
2\ if we create a way to ground the chaos of 8b free people
m: in fact.. if it wasn’t for that move.. we really wouldn’t have solved the climate crisis.. and all the other eco problems we faced before the great transition
oi
2:18 – c: we also realized the purpose of auto production.. free us of labor
2:19 – v: another was the removal of the price system.. m: and neg cost anal
deeper .. need to let go of any form of m\a\p
2:20 – c: a true econ.. now .. v: creates diff social atmosphere.. we finally got it right a: a system designed to actually care.. imagine that
deeper – ie: imagine if we
2:22 – simulated story.. 2:37 – this island wasn’t created to escape the world.. but to show alt if possible if work together.. ie: no one works for survival.. no trade/markets/currency.. (on not getting paid) how is anyone motivated?.. if design meets proper criteria.. then accessible to additive manufacturing system ie: 3d printers.. no waste here.. ai design filters won’t allow production of anything that isn’t 100% regenerative.. 2:40: this isn’t utopia.. it’s simply pragmatic design.. let me now show you our democratic system.. how we use direct democracy to eliminate politicians and control problems.. no elections et al
gotta go deeper.. gotta eliminate any form of m\a\p.. any form of democratic admin
2:41 – peter: to wrap up.. what would you say to confused people before
m: i’d quote rustin: ‘you are all one.. and if you don’t know it.. you’re going to find out the hard way’
