borkedsys on transition ness
via reposted thread (from april 2025) [https://x.com/borkedsys/status/1910295028158570886]:
1/ Most people sense the system is broken, but can’t see a credible path out. This thread lays out grounded, systemic steps toward a Resource Based Economy, not as utopia, but as a functional redesign of production, distribution, and meaning. Transition is possible.
2/ A Resource Based Economy is not a dream, it’s a shift in operating logic. It asks: *What is technically possible today? **What incentives prevent it? ***What steps can we take to transition without collapse or coercion? It’s not ideology. It’s applied systems science.
*tech as it could be.. ie: nonjudgmental expo labeling
**any form of measuring, accounting, people telling other people what to do
***have to be ‘steps’ to get to the root of problem.. otherwise may think we’re transitioning but actually just whac-a-mole-ing (perpetuating) same song
how we gather in a space is huge.. need to try spaces of permission where people have nothing to prove to facil curiosity over decision making.. because the finite set of choices of decision making is unmooring us.. keeping us from us..
what we need most is the energy of 8b alive people.. for that.. humanity needs a leap.. to get back/to simultaneous spontaneity .. simultaneous fittingness.. everyone in sync.. (aka: a global detox leap)
ie: imagine if we listen to the itch-in-8b-souls 1st thing everyday & use that data to connect us (tech as it could be.. ai as augmenting interconnectedness)
the thing we’ve not yet tried/seen: the unconditional part of left to own devices ness
[‘in an undisturbed ecosystem ..the individual left to its own devices.. serves the whole’ –dana meadows]
there’s a legit use of tech (nonjudgmental exponential labeling) to facil the seeming chaos of a global detox leap/dance.. for (blank)’s sake..
ie: whatever for a year.. a legit sabbatical ish transition
Step 1: Expose the system’s incentive architecture. Most dysfunction, waste, war, poverty, ecological collapse, is structurally incentivized. *Education must reveal how profit logic, artificial scarcity, and debt based money trap us in designs that cannot evolve.
*cancerous distraction.. thinking we have to ed people.. (ie: no train; no prep; just listen to what is already on each heart)
we need a problem deep enough to resonate w/8b today.. via a mechanism simple enough to be accessible/usable to 8b today.. in an ecosystem open enough to set/keep 8b legit free
ie: org around a problem deep enough (aka: org around legit needs) to resonate w/8b today.. via a mechanism simple enough (aka: tech as it could be) to be accessible/usable to 8b today.. and an ecosystem open enough (aka: sans any form of m\a\p) to set/keep 8b legit free
Step 2: *Decouple survival from exchange wherever possible. **When we meet needs without markets, via mutual aid, open source tools, community food systems, we weaken the scarcity script. These aren’t side projects. They’re early muscle memory for post-market life.
*while it sounds good/urgent/necessary/logical/whatever.. triage ness is (has always) just perpetuated same song.. we need a means to try life over survival ness.. aka: org around legit needs
**until we grok our deep enough needs.. we won’t grok stopping at enough ness.. and will perpetuate waste/scarcity (because missing pieces will keep perpetuating perpetuating survival triage; khan filling the gaps law; cope\ing ness; et al) .. need global detox leap if want to grok (and org around) legit/deepest needs
Step 3: *Teach systems literacy. Most were trained to see isolated parts, not dynamic wholes. Educate on feedback loops, emergent behavior, leverage points, automation potential. **Without this, people mistake symptoms for causes, and fight the wrong enemies.
*again.. big red flags if dependent on teaching ness .. aka: people telling other people what to do
**this is exactly what teaching ness does
Step 4: *Build parallel infrastructure. RBE will not be legislated into existence, it must be **prototyped into credibility. Tool libraries, energy commons, sensor-tracked distribution: each node should model post-scarcity logic, not just reduce harm.
*just need rat park.. and means to facil the unconditional part of left to own devices ness
**graeber model law.. the credibility comes from everyone having access/freedom for doing/being/living it.. not from given steps/designs.. ie: need a city sketchup approach.. why we need a sabbatical ish transition
Step 5: Reframe motivation. Capitalism asks: “How will people be motivated without money?” The real question is: “How do we design systems where motivation isn’t corrupted?” A Resource Based Economy doesn’t eliminate drive it removes systemic coercion.
i think the terms motivation/incentive et al are dangerous.. because we have no idea what legit ‘drive’ is.. aka: itch-in-the-soul.. because we haven’t yet been quiet enough to listen that deep
Step 6: *Create hybrid transition zones. These are spaces between worlds, where needs are met without profit logic. Think: maker labs with universal access, permaculture networks, resource commons. These are not reforms. They’re scaffolds for post-scarcity flow.
*we’ve tried this since forever.. i do wish that would work.. but to me (from what i’ve seen via on the ground ness) it won’t.. because of the whac-a-mole-ing ness of not being in in sync.. of not being deep/simple/open enough for the dance to dance
Step 7: Audit what’s technically obsolete. Money isn’t the limiter, our logic is. *Ask: What could we automate today? What resources are already abundant but locked behind price tags? Education must expose the gap between what’s real vs what’s permitted.
*deeper.. what does humanity ness (mufleh humanity law) need us to automate/exponentiate.. ie: legit use of tech (nonjudgmental exponential labeling) to facil the seeming chaos of a global detox leap/dance
Step 8: *Re-skill for stewardship, not employment. In an RBE, labor is not extracted, it’s chosen. **We must teach ecological maintenance, systems design, post-scarcity governance. The goal is not job readiness. It’s distributed ***competence for autonomous worlds.
*sounds good/nice/caring.. but actually a form of people telling other people what to do.. a cancerous distraction to listening deeper
**ie of *
***red flag that we’re not yet trying/seeing the unconditional part of left to own devices ness
Step 9: *Create transition literacy. People don’t follow ideas, they follow what they can feel and see. Utopian aesthetics won’t land. We must build **grounded narratives of how transition happens, what it looks like, and what we can start doing now.
*again.. huge red flag/cancerous distraction.. [legibility and control; lit & num as colonialism; et al]
**legit transition hasn’t happened yet to date.. because of this thinking.. that we have to build a ‘grounded narrative’ for it to happen.. again.. graeber model law et al
The future isn’t a product, it’s a process. *RBE is not an end state but a reorientation of human systems around access, not exchange. This won’t come from slogans. It comes from rewiring infrastructure, **one node at a time, until systemic coercion becomes obsolete.
*this is super.. but won’t happen until we grok legit needs..
**again.. part\ial ness is keeping us in same song.. in the whac-a-mole-ing ness of sea world
none of the above hasn’t been tried before.. yet still no legit ‘transition’..
the thing we’ve not yet tried/seen: the unconditional part of left to own devices ness
the thing we need (and keep missing) for the dance to dance
[‘in an undisturbed ecosystem ..the individual left to its own devices.. serves the whole’ –dana meadows]
