“Balaji has the highest rate of output per minute of good new ideas of anybody I’ve ever met, and The Network State may be his best.” — Marc Andreessen, cofounder of Andreessen Horowitz
matters little if.. mufleh humanity law: we have seen advances in every aspect of our lives except our humanity– Luma Mufleh
not to mention.. not legit new.. we need to try something legit diff.. hari rat park law.. let’s do this first.. for (blank)’s sake
“We’ve started new currencies. Now The Network State shows us how to start new cities and new countries.” — Vitalik Buterin, cofounder of Ethereum
perhaps we quit trying to group/label things.. and just work on global equity: everyone getting a go everyday
need 1st/most: means to undo our hierarchical listening to self/others/nature so we can org around legit needs
imagine if we listened to the itch-in-8b-souls 1st thing everyday & used that data to connect us (tech as it could be.. ai as augmenting interconnectedness as nonjudgmental expo labeling)
vitalik buterin – need ai as nonjudgmental expo labeling.. because the dance won’t dance till we can hear everyone
“Balaji is a visionary, and one of the most original thinkers of our time. Many have had the experience of hearing him say something, thinking it was crazy, and then a year or two later realizing ‘Balaji was right.’ I think Balaji will be right about The Network State.” — Brian Armstrong, cofounder and CEO of Coinbaseoi.. nothing new here..
we do need to try something legit diff.. but we’ve not yet been quiet enough to see/imagine what that could be.. let alone to try it out.. ie: there’s a nother way
“The future convergence of networks and governments, from one of the most brilliant thinkers alive.” — Naval Ravikant, cofounder of AngelList
our biggest problem is we’ve never thought about, realized, tried to actualize, listening to everyone .. need everyone for the dance to dance.. otherwise.. just same song
When the brand new is unthinkable, we fight over the old. That’s where we are today with governments, with politics, and with much of the physical world. But perhaps we can change that.
yeah.. that’s spot on.. but too many red flags here for this to be any diff..
graeber rethink law.. sinclair perpetuation law.. why not yet.. et al
This book introduces the concept of the network state: a country you can start from your computer, a state that recruits..t like a startup, a nation built from the internet rather than disrupted by it.
perhaps biggest red flag in this whole idea.. based on idea of calling (invited vs invented) people to an idea rather than listening to the itch-in-8b-souls 1st thing everyday & using that data to connect us (tech as it could be.. ai as augmenting interconnectedness as nonjudgmental expo labeling)
for that.. need 1st/most: means to undo our hierarchical listening to self/others/nature so we can org around legit needs
ai as nonjudgmental expo labeling
The fundamental concept behind the network state is to assemble a digital community and *organize it to crowdfund physical territory. But that territory is not in one place — it’s spread around the world, fully decentralized, hooked together by the internet for a common cause, much like Google’s offices or Bitcoin’s miners. And because every citizen has opted in, it’s a model for **100% democracy rather than the minimum threshold of consent modeled by 51% democracies.
*humanity (and so the world) needs/begs us to org around legit needs
**again.. not what humanity (and so the world) needs/begs.. any form of democratic admin.. any form of m\a\p.. is killing us (not so softly) with same song
we need a problem deep enough to resonate w/8bn today.. a mechanism simple enough to be accessible/usable to 8bn today.. and an ecosystem open enough to set/keep 8bn legit free
ie: org around a problem deep enough (aka: org around legit needs) to resonate w/8bn today.. via a mechanism simple enough (aka: tech as it could be) to be accessible/usable to 8bn today.. and an ecosystem open enough (aka: sans any form of m\a\p) to set/keep 8bn legit free
Of course, there are countless questions that need to be answered to *build something of this scope. How does a network state work socially, technically, logistically, legally, physically, financially? How could such a thing even be viable?
*rather.. need something of this scope: infinitesimal structures approaching the limit of structureless\ness and/or vice versa .. aka: ginorm/small ness
1\ undisturbed ecosystem (common\ing) can happen
2\ if we create a way to ground the chaos of 8b legit free people
That’s why you should read this book.
‘A key concept is to go *cloud first, land last — but not land never — by starting with an online community and then materializing it into the physical world.‘
*key concept to the dance – itch-in-8b-souls first.. everyday
‘Unlike an ideologically disaligned and geographically centralized legacy state, which packs millions of disputants in one place, a network state is ideologically aligned but geographically decentralized.‘
need to go more ginormous – small than that
‘Unionization is a key step because it *turns an otherwise ineffective online community into a group of people working together for a common cause.‘
*one of our biggest (?.. at least very often stated) roadblocks.. thinking we need to common cause us.. when rather .. for the dance.. need to first listen for the it is me ness

Investing in building a future where everyone has the “option to exit” to their own self-sovereign system, for those in systems that work against them. If the system people are born into is a “network1”, their route to exit the meta-system is network0. By Tom Howard · Launched 6 months ago
*imagine a now.. where everyone doesn’t get to a place they end up wanting to exit (in a space ness.. dave’s campfire analogy, invited vs invented, et al)
ie: imagine if we listened to the itch-in-8b-souls 1st thing everyday & used that data to connect us (tech as it could be.. ai as augmenting interconnectedness as nonjudgmental expo labeling)
The first quarter of the 21st century is marked with rapid development of new technologies that enable entirely new ways of coordinating and organizing society – at the same time the application of these technologies have been focused on reinforcing the old ways that humans structure society.
Limited by laws designed to make up for the shortcomings of available technology at the time they were written, the decentralized technologies created in the last century were used to build centralized monopolies that created new power structures controlled by a few parties with limited oversight

notes/quotes from bouncing all around the (online changeable) book:
Technology has enabled us to start new companies, new communities, and new currencies. But can we use it to start new cities, or even new countries? This book explains how to build the successor to the nation state, a concept we call the network state.
but what we need are not successors.. not more of the same song.. we need to try something legit diff..
and today we can.. via ai as nonjudgmental expo labeling for a legit global detox/re\set
When reading it, think of this work as a toolbox, not a manifesto. You don’t need to agree with all of it to get something out of it. We’ve structured it in modular form for that reason. Chapter 1 is an overview of the ideas. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 present an analysis that leads to a concerning forecast for the near future, the problem of American Anarchy and Chinese Control. And Chapter 5 presents our proposed solution for maintaining liberal values in an illiberal world: startup societies and network states.
The Network State in One Sentence
In one informal sentence:
A network state is a highly aligned online community with a capacity for collective action that crowdfunds territory around the world and eventually gains diplomatic recognition from pre-existing states.
When we think of a nation state, we immediately think of the lands, but when we think of a network state, we should instantly think of the minds. That is, if the nation state system starts with the map of the globe and assigns each patch of land to a single state, *the network state system starts with the 7+ billion humans of the world and attracts each mind to one or more networks.
yeah to starting w 8b .. but to itch-in-the-soul (rather than anything to do with intellect ness et al) and then using that data to connect us (rather than about attracting anything)..
The Definition
That’s the process of getting to a network state. Now let’s drill into each part of our proposed definition..Admission to this social network is *selective, people can lose their account privileges for bad behavior, and everyone who’s there has explicitly opted in by applying to join.
huge red flags
not going to be legit diff.. not going to be mufleh humanity law ness.. not going to be chomsky serious things law ness.. unless it’s sans any form of m\a\p
findings abstract .. et al
