The man who heals what medicine can’t:
Dr. Gabor Maté.
This 80-year-old physician says true healing comes from nervous system regulation, not drugs or meditation.
actually just 2 (#4) basic needs.. almaas holes law et al
listing 7 becomes a cancerous distraction
Here are his 7 forgotten laws for ending chronic stress at the root:
- Don’t ask what, ask why
When I felt anxious or overwhelmed, I stopped asking, “How do I get rid of this?”
I started asking, “Why is my system sounding the alarm?”
maté addiction law et al
Treat the feeling as data, not a defect. That’s how you find the stress loop instead of muting symptoms.
2. Environment is everything
Maté teaches that if you live in volatility, pressure, and constant urgency, anxiety and shutdown aren’t “disorders.” They’re the correct response. You don’t have a broken brain. You have a nervous system accurately mapping a toxic or misaligned environment.
cope\ing ness.. hari present in society law.. khan filling the gaps law.. et al
- Connection creates safety
Your nervous system regulates through connection:
- To your own sensations
- To safe people
- To something bigger than you
When you’re numb, hyper-independent, or always “in your head,” your body reads that as danger and keeps you in survival mode.
need a means for life over survival ness
- Authenticity vs attachment
As kids we trade authenticity for attachment: “If I hide who I am, I’ll be loved.”
As adults that shows up as burnout, people-pleasing, chronic over-functioning.
Your nervous system can’t relax if it believes: “Being me = losing love, safety, or belonging.”
huge huge huge.. what the world needs most/1st: means (nonjudgmental expo labeling) to undo hierarchical listening – so we can hear what’s already on each heart as global detox in order to org around legit needs (aka: maté basic needs law)
just #4 could heal us.. global detox us
- Chronic stress is adaptive, not random
Most “conditions” are adaptations to chronic stress and trauma, not random glitches.
Your system learned to cope in a setup that didn’t feel safe.
This trades shame—”What’s wrong with me?”—for agency: “What is my body protesting about my life and patterns?”
again.. coping ness et al
- Trauma isn’t stored in your mind—it’s stored in your body.
If that loop never closes, your body keeps reliving the past:
- Insomnia
- Gut issues
- Pain
- Brain fog
- Shutdown
Talking helps. But your body has to feel safe again, or it keeps the pattern running.
gabor on childhood trauma et al
- Healing = reconnection to self
Trauma disconnects you from yourself so you can survive your environment.
Healing isn’t becoming someone new. It’s becoming whole again:
- Feeling what you feel
- Wanting what you want
- Letting your body’s signals count as real information
ie: imagine if we listen to the itch-in-8b-souls 1st thing everyday & use that data to connect us (tech as it could be.. ai as augmenting interconnectedness)
the thing we’ve not yet tried/seen: the unconditional part of left to own devices ness
[‘in an undisturbed ecosystem ..the individual left to its own devices.. serves the whole’ –dana meadows]
there’s a legit use of tech (nonjudgmental exponential labeling) to facil the seeming chaos of a global detox leap/dance
ie: whatever for a year.. a legit sabbatical ish transition
otherwise we’ll keep perpetuating the same song.. the whac-a-mole-ing ness of sea world.. of not-us ness.. of part\ial ness.. perpetuating survival triage.. for (blank)’s sake..
