this tweet is actually what got me to look it up.

[as i was reading Jeremy Rifkin‘s near zero – where he’s saying the foundation we seek is threefold 1. communication commons/internet 2. energy commons/internet 3. logistics commons/internet – and he was saying specifically – in the passage i highlighted in his book – that “a failure of imagination here, it lies in a misunderstanding of the critical role energy plays in foundational infrastructure”]

The Matrix is a 1999 American–Australian science fiction action film written and directed by The Wachowski Brothers, ... It depicts a dystopian future in which reality as perceived by most humans is actually a simulated reality called “the Matrix”, created by sentient machines to subdue the human population, while their bodies’ heat and electrical activity are used as an energy source. Computer programmer “Neo” learns this truth and is drawn into a rebellion against the machines, which involves other people who have been freed from the “dream world”.

Morpheus explains that in the 21st century, humans waged a war against intelligent machines they had created. When humans blocked the machines’ access to solar energy, the machines instead turned to harvesting the humans’ bioelectricity as a substitute power source, while keeping them trapped in “the Matrix”, a shared simulation of the world as it was in 1999, in which Neo has been living since birth. Morpheus and his crew belong to a group of rebels who hack into the Matrix and “unplug” enslaved humans, recruiting them as rebels.

and aha now.. to the tweet at least.

didn’t realize that billions of people were hooked up (and locked in – hony) for their energy (bioelectricity).

so the non-dystopian future/now – harvests curiosity rather than bioelectricity.. that as our unsatiated by choice drive/energy.. why grit – story ness et al

because in that we leap frog to the betterness (no need to juice energy out of us). ie: toby
