Mark is the Executive Director of the Center for Prophetic Imagination (CPI) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Center for Prophetic Imagination integrates spiritual formation, creative political action, and experimental education to nurture and guide leaders that call people out of empire to embrace God’s vision for the world. CPI exists to cultivate prophetic witness.

In 2004, Mark and his wife Amy founded what is now the Wildflower Worker, where they still reside. The Wildflower Worker is an urban intentional community that, inspired by the way of Jesus, commits to practicing solidarity, jubilee, sacred contemplation, and resistance.

to me this is what our empire does.. our empire/society says we have to be successful in certain ways.. only people who can be a part of the empire meaningfully have to be useful for that end.. any we see as not useful for aims we determine as society.. fundamentally incapable of giving us what we want.. treating us the way we want.. we’re going *instinctively.. biochem brain level.. not give them full humanity.. what is it about our society that conditions us that way

3 min – look at jesus.. comes out of wilderness.. not around anybody except hs, satan, wild animals.. first thing he does is says kingdom of god is here.. then starts noticing people who had been left out.. the unclean.. that’s what kingdom of god does.. when we encounter jesus.. *we recognize the people who we’re even hardwired to not recognize.. this is the important work.. our society’s sense of meritocracy.. people get what they deserve, that getting a job more important than being kind, .. all this stuff drives us to something that is contrary to the kingdom.. so i feel like that’s part of why my community does **hospitality.. we don’t serve the poor.. we ask that homeless if we’re part of the same work.. that they just join us.. redistribute wealth..

4 min – (interviewer: doesn’t sound sustainable).. *it’s really hard.. jesus didn’t have to live more than a few years after he started talking this way.. so maybe he’s not the best.. but he seems to be like.. it’s ok if you die.. i don’t really like that .. i’m **trying to figure out how to make this sustainable.. and maybe this is why jesus a number of times invites the wealthy.. tells to deal with issue of how to deal w the poor.. if we share and share wisely i think we can make it work
