notes/quotes from video:
it’s funny.. i’m always asked to talk about ecology.. when really what i want to talk about is capitalist imperialism.. the two are a piece of the same problem.. eco crisis is ultimately playing out along colonial lines.. t
imperialism and colonialism.. Colonialism is where one country physically exerts complete control over another country and Imperialism is formal or informal economic and political domination of one country over the other. In a nutshell, colonialism can be thought of as the practice of domination and imperialism as an idea behind the practice.
legit freedom will only happen if it’s all of us.. and in order to be all of us.. has to be sans any form of measuring, accounting, people telling other people what to do
a liberated palestine means capitalism is in crisis and that’s not going to happen..
ruling classes who control the ruling classes.. people who have contributed nothing .. not a small amount.. nothing.. worst consequences.. due to excess accumulation
eco crisis reps processes of colonization.. if not attentive to those colonial dimensions we’re fundamentally missing the point
our productive capacities are incredible.. and yet vast majority of human pop lives in massive deprivation .. 80% of pop can’t meet basic needs..
even deeper.. need to grok deeper/essential needs first.. need to org around legit needs
2 min – what explains this.. our system of production.. capitalism.. where incredible productive capacities are org’d around what is most profitable to capital and what can most facil accumulation
3 min – so we’re in this wild place that’s like.. solving poverty is going to take generations.. climate crisis seems intractable.. none of this is true.. these are problems that can easily be solved and quickly.. the problem is that we don’t have control over our own productive capacities.. because we don’t have an economic democracy.. some of us live in political democracy..
but only if org around legit needs
we need a problem deep enough to resonate w/8b today.. via a mechanism simple enough to be accessible/usable to 8b today.. in an ecosystem open enough to set/keep 8b legit free
ie: org around a problem deep enough (aka: org around legit needs) to resonate w/8b today.. via a mechanism simple enough (aka: tech as it could be) to be accessible/usable to 8b today.. and an ecosystem open enough (aka: sans any form of m\a\p) to set/keep 8b legit free
answer to c is econ democracy.. that we should have demo control over what we’re producing.. we know exactly what to do we don’t have the power.. don’t have sovereign control
rather.. econ democracy .. any form of democratic admin.. any form of m\a\p.. same song
5 min – accumulation of core depends utterly on cheapening of labor/resources in the south.. so any attempt by lib to use for own needs is destabilizing for capital in core and capital reacts w most extraordinary violent backlashes.. we see it happening all the time.. now it’s palestine, before it was libya.. iraq.. chile.. indonesia.. the congo.. it will never stop
palestine.. iraq.. chile.. et al
the situation in palestine is not a moral one.. that’s how we think of it.. but that’s not how capital thinks of it.. for them it is a matter of suppressing/crushing liberation movements.. because a liberated palestine means a liberated middle east.. a liberated middle east means capitalism in the core really faces a crisis and they will not let that happen.. and they’re unleashing the full violence of their extraordinary power to ensure it doesn’t
6 min – so i think that’s really what we face.. the world system dimension of the violence we’re seeing our resistance has to be in proportion
any form of re ness as cancerous distraction
rather.. we need to try a legit nother way.. we need to try the unconditional part of left to own devices ness
there’s a legit use of tech (nonjudgmental exponential labeling) to facil the seeming chaos of a global detox leap/dance.. the unconditional part of left-to-own-devices ness.. for (blank)’s sake.. and we’re missing it ie: a sabbatical ish transition
