m of care – feb 29 24

via museum of care room – pedagogies of care – for m of care – feb 29 24 – [https://museum.care/events/pedagogies-of-care-2/]:

The series of encounters ‘Pedagogies of Care’ will be designed around the legacies of historical figures – from Francisco Ferrer Guardia, Asja Lacis, Bertolt Brecht and Walter Benjamin, to Ivan Illich, Palle Nielsen, bell hooks and David Graeber, among others. Be it theatre, art, anarchist thought or anthropology, many of these important personalities shared common aspirations. What contemporary practices align with this historical lineage and trajectory, aptly coined by Illich as ‘deschooling’? Contemporary actors such as The Freedom Theatre in Palestine, Grupo Contrafile in Brazil, but also indigenous communities and activist groups, are examples that will help us to understand and locate those contemporary ‘pedagogies of care’ in action, which also go well beyond this very complex and problematic notion.

walter on art.. ivan illich.. bell on solitude.. david graeber.. unschooling ness.. schooling the world ness.. pedagogy ness..

we need to try a nother way.. sans the supposed to’s of school/work.. sans any form of people telling other people what to do.. sans any form of m\a\p

ie: sans pedagogy ness (method/practice of teaching)

What do these true educational resources, from which we may learn collectively, have in common and how do they differ from the mainstream pedagogical approaches based on competition, separation and control? When and *with the help of which tools can active care become a communal social and political instrument, providing voice and agency, rather than depriving of it? How can notions such as attention, observation, dialogue and **listening become key strategies leading towards the creation of new shared ontologies, opening up new scenarios and providing different horizons?

*there’s a legit use of tech (nonjudgmental expo labeling).. to facil a legit global detox leap.. for (blank)’s sake.. and we’re missing it

legit freedom will only happen if it’s all of us.. and in order to be all of us.. has to be sans any form of m\a\p

**need 1st/most: means to undo our hierarchical listening to self/others/nature as global detox/re\set.. so we can org around legit needs

imagine if we listened to the itch-in-8b-souls 1st thing everyday & used that data to connect us (tech as it could be.. ai as augmenting interconnectedness as nonjudgmental expo labeling)

Hosted and curated by Andris Brinkmanis, this series of talks will explore the topic in collaboration with invited guests as well as the community around the David Graeber Institute.

notes/quotes from meeting:

andris: hope to bring in guest speakers.. let us know who to invite.. series structured around historical figures.. ie: walter benjamin, ivan illich, bell hooks, david graeber.. francisco ferrer fuardia, asja lacis, palle nielsen.. then speak about practices that are relevant today.. w/questions on deschooling et al.. then talked about his history with asja.. i’ve always been interested in alt ed.. to me she’s most relevant figures.. will read her bio and her pedagogies.. famous for leading walter benjamin to left/marxist.. then lives w him for short while.. her focus was/became ed thru theatre.. like to speak today specifically about her childrens’ theatre (read some of her notes from memoirs): ‘on placing vagabond children in institutions.. but always ran away.. so that’s what focused on.. i had to do something.. besides rhymes.. to set traumatized facilities free.. work w street children.. i was convince we could wake the children and develop them thru play’

so.. wake.. then put back to sleep

andris: still quoting ‘on damage of scripted play.. i wanted them to be able to make things from raw material.. gymnastics.. diction.. improv.. play originated as children performing for children.. goal is to set productivity free.. for those who have talent and those who don’t..’

huge red flags.. if talking productivity and talent.. oi

‘starting for her and other ed’s is observation.. ed’s watch children to see what they accomplished and how they could apply skills.. ‘

oh my.. let people be

nika chat [Important person for David and also connected with Bahtin]

‘they rebutted me.. but if i stayed away.. they sought me out (para).. when children nothing about my plans.. i gave them a scene.. while working on scene.. intruders.. convinced children to continue improv and ignore intruders.. start to out do one another in horror.. according to ed.. i should have interrupted wild speeches – arrogance of a robber et al.. but wanted to gain (rapore) eventually.. were learning texts and initiating other activities/performances.. that’s how this method has proven itself.. children believed they’d done it themselves thru play.. ed’s learned how easy it is for children to adapt.. how talented and sensitive they are.. made wild imaginations physical’

andris: walter benjamin then comes up w ‘program for proletarian theatre’ for her.. he was so interested in the childrens’ theatre.. foundational for her.. why she was so famous.. play as learning for pedagogy.. benjamin also experimented w radio play.. radio benjamin..

andris: back to asja.. she goes on to working with workers in theatre.. innovative forms of how they could do interventions.. similar to visual assemblies.. ie: charades.. to guess words.. then after disputes.. 2 ideas: porosity and performity of the city.. walter does book ‘one way street’

andris: then i tried to find out why she has been forgotten.. then talked about all her accolades/connections/visibility.. friends of w benjamin started to hate her because she ‘changed’ him..

andris: if not for brenner (journalist) would have nothing on her..? he was super attacked by young kids of 68.. she was really very avangarde in her images.. et al.. i’ve tried to connect some of that to practices today..

need to try in the city.. as the day ness via city sketchup ness

andris: on making this relevant to link someo of this to notion of david.. ie: spritual violence.. on people being forced to do things.. links to bs jobs et al

bs jobs from birth.. supposed to’s of school/work.. any form of m\a\p

andris: if there are practitioners of radical pedagogy.. speak out and suggest speakers

oof

andris: on giving children freedom

won’t happen unless all of us et al

imagine if we listened to the itch-in-8b-souls 1st thing everyday & used that data to connect us

ie: need means (nonjudgmental expo labeling) to undo hierarchical listening as global detox so we can org around legit needs

there’s a legit use of tech (nonjudgmental expo labeling).. to facil a legit global detox leap.. for (blank)’s sake.. and we’re missing it

again.. legit freedom will only happen if it’s all of us.. and in order to be all of us.. has to be sans any form of m\a\p
