share assets in idling capacities..
i need.. you have…
[ebay, zipcar, airbnb, liquid space, blahblah car, task rabbit]individual peer to peer transacting…
unleashing micro preneurs… and building community
from asset heavy to asset light
cities – we are in massive need of policy reform for sharing economy.. and cities can greatly benefit from sharing as well… – shareable cities resolution
33 min – example of policy changes – ie: can’t drive faster than horse and buggy
q&a
36 min – people get involved with sharing economy because of personal current economics.. people end up staying because of community… people they are meeting..
48 min – neighborhood lending libraries.. tools, etc..
51 min – much of the sharing economy doesn’t show up in gdp.. it’s not growth… this macro issue has to be dismantled.. not reflective of true value
55 min – collaborative consumption is just one piece of a larger pie – collaborative economy
56 min – collaborative
- consumption
- production (square – tech shop you pay $100 to use tools)
- finance (crowdfunding)
- learning (online skill sharing platforms)
all come together to create the collaborative economy
1 hour – roughly – 90% at city level = 10 % at state level..
1:03 – whether or not they are taxed – sharing economy is bringing revenue to the city

10 min – not sure how sharing econ..if …10% of china’s gdp by 2020 .. and business plan.. funds.. perhaps a great new econ system.. but how is it sharing..?
11 min – defining sharing of what.. but again.. those are all tied up with funding no..? how is this sharing..?
13 min – for me… generally.. econ based on access over ownership and decentralized connection thru tech.. so also .. sharing of underutilized resources… some people say 3 s’s: spaces, skills, stuff
15 min – gig/freelance/on-demand econs… all talking about our time..
20 min – seoul’s mayor called the people’s mayor
23 min – seoul people saying.. community connection is number one.. everything else will flow if we get that right..
host-life-bits via self-talk as data
25 min – some of their ambitious policies: connect retireds with college for living; every car will be shared; ..
26 min – #1 hardest thing for them.. how long it takes to change minds..
why .. as the day ness matters.. [aka: not part\ial.. for (blank)’s sake…]
27 min – they are realizing going to take the better part of a generation… they want 100% participation.. but being ok with building over a generation
37 min – barcelona and berlin.. hardest places right now to operate as a global co.. i think they’re going to regret long term… one end of spectrum.. other end.. london and amsterdam.. et al.. welcoming co’s..
40 min – sharing econ working group w/in wef.. also on urbanisation advisory board.. also on global futures of the forum..
41 min – vast majority of what happens with sharing econ is hyper local.. in fact something like airbnb is unique.. sharing has to be in another locale..
44 min – on regulation needing to come at the end.. when you understand more
46 min – the most basic bucket of engagement is 1\education.. ie: many mayors don’t even use email.. then related closely… 2\research.. for policy makers to understand goals/metrics..3\ partnerships.. no better way to learn/bene from it.. doesn’t require regulatory reform.. allows experimentation.. 4\ participation.. govts starting to look at ie: sharing econ w/delivery of public services.. ie: seoul with auto .. 5\ regulation
50 min – there is no one regulatory practices..
not even within a space.. why we need to go deep enough and simple enough.. ie: short.. 2 convos as best practice.. everything else entropy izes..
on day one.. need to be as light as possible on regulatory practices.. and want to balance local/global needs.. and get community input…
again.. keep it deep.. and host-life-bits via self-talk as data
55 min – sustainability.. i start with resource underutilization
upcycle ness… which today.. is people energy\ness
let’s do this first: free art-ists.
58 min – cities.. reduction of waste overnight.. if put into shared used..
so underutilization, efficiency, and day to day practical opps to reduce waste
1:00 – seoul is starting to track all this.. ie: co2.. moneys.. but not all in english.. anything that govts are tracking/reporting.. is starting to get reported out.. the challenge is there’s a whole lot of research that needs to be done that’s not being done.. ie: many start ups are quite lean..
another reason.. to set 7 bn free first.. with tech to facil that chaos.. connect per curiosity.. every day..
1:02 – to really make the case.. and to develop more policy.. need more research.. but not kind of research that takes 3-5 yrs..
again.. imagine 7 bn prototyping.. daily .. host those life bits..
1:03 – why not more research.. ie: peer reviewed papers.. books.. academic papers.. by the time published already out dated.. the space is moving so quickly.. there are an enormous # of youngers studying this..
