peter diamandis – abundance

Creating abundance [is] not about creating a life of luxury for everybody on this planet; it’s about creating a life of possibility. Peter Diamandis
Peter Diamandis is the founder and chair of the X Prize Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is simply “to bring about radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity.” By offering a big cash prize for a specific accomplishment, the X Prize stimulates competition and excitement around some of the planet’s most important goals. Diamandis is also co-founder and chairman of Singularity University which runs Exponential Technologies Executive and Graduate Student Programs.
Diamandis’ background is in space exploration — before the X Prize, he ran a company that studied low-cost launching technologies and Zero-G which offers the public the chance to train like an astronaut and experience weightlessness. But though the X Prize’s first $10 million went to a space-themed challenge, Diamandis’ goal now is to extend the prize into health care, social policy, education and many other fields that could use a dose of competitive innovation.

Providing abundance is humanity’s grandest challenge—this is a book about how we rise to meet it.
We will soon be able to meet and exceed the basic needs of every man, woman and child on the planet. Abundance for all is within our grasp. This bold, contrarian view, backed up by exhaustive research, introduces our near-term future, where exponentially growing technologies and three other powerful forces are conspiring to better the lives of billions. An antidote to pessimism by tech entrepreneur turned philanthropist, Peter H. Diamandis and award-winning science writer Steven Kotler.
Since the dawn of humanity, a privileged few have lived in stark contrast to the hardscrabble majority. Conventional wisdom says this gap cannot be closed. But it is closing—fast. The authors document how four forces—exponential technologies, the DIY innovator, the Technophilanthropist, and the Rising Billion—are conspiring to solve our biggest problems. Abundance establishes hard targets for change and lays out a strategic roadmap for governments, industry and entrepreneurs, giving us plenty of reason for optimism.
Examining human need by category—water, food, energy, healthcare, education, freedom—Diamandis and Kotler introduce dozens of innovators making great strides in each area: Larry Page, Steven Hawking, Dean Kamen, Daniel Kahneman, Elon Musk, Bill Joy, Stewart Brand, Jeff Skoll, Ray Kurzweil, Ratan Tata, Craig Venter, among many, many others

Diamandis talks a lot about “the grand challenges” of “the billion-person problems,” by which he means the wretched conditions in which the world’s poorest people live. “How many equivalents of Da Vinci and Edison,” he said to me, “have come into existence in parts of the world without communications and are never heard from?”
yes that. short.
Kapor near his weekend home in Healdsburg, a yuppified old Sonoma County town north of San Francisco, he said almost exactly the same thing: “The amount of sheer genius that is being completely wasted—who knows what brilliant discoveries would be made if we weren’t throwing so much away?”

Peter H. Diamandis muses on his passions and the motivations that fuel his motivation. Footage from Diamandis’ virtual acceptance speech for the Churchill Club’s 2013 Legendary Leader award.
heroes – people who see the world as it could/should be and then paint that world so vividly..
painting a city/world – a people experiment
in serial fashion – knocking down boundary after boundary until you hit the fundamental law of physics and it’s bound to happen
today – there is nothing that we cannot do
the most important thing we need to do is change the conversation from one about talking about problems to one about solving problems

If I were to reinvent elementary school curriculum for the #future, here’s how it would look. Get my report here: buff.ly/2hhCS19
from his fb share of same he writes to preface share:
The most valuable resource for humanity is the persistent and passionate human mind. It’s critical that we help support our kids in discovering their passions and embracing their creativity. Get my special report on the Future of Education to see how and why I’d reinvent elementary school curriculum.
if you really believe we are the most valuable resource.. go deeper.. you .. of all people.. should get that we can..
from 2 min video in link
how do we get kids to want to learn
how..? we quit getting them to not want to learn.. we come with predisposition of craving learning.. ie: full on curiosity..
the trick is to get kids as addicted to learning as they are to gaming
again.. they come that way.. we drill it out of them.. and i’d question their addiction to gaming.. ie: how often is that more of an escape.. from us insisting that we educate them..
a case where ed is much better than we could possibly ever imagine
better.. (back to your original.. thinking we are most valuable resource.. and noting it with the mom working on folding at night).. but not best.. best would be using tech to facilitate the madness/chaos.. of 7 bn people following their whimsy/daily-curiosity..
hosting-life-bits via self-talk as data… as the day.. [aka: not part\ial.. for (blank)’s sake…]

Universal Basic Income: One of the most important proposed solutions to job loss due to automation. Here’s how: buff.ly/2gC0MTh
Some fear that robots and AI will steal our jobs.
They probably will (in the near-term, at least half of them).
If that happens, what will we do for a living? How will we earn money?
that’s the question we have..? we have x factor ness.. going to the moon/mars.. ness.. so much crazy ness.. expo tech.. and we’re asking.. how do we get more of that fake paper/digital to measure our transactions..? to validate us..? holy smokes..
[..]
(NOTE: In case you missed it, in a previous blog I covered, in detail, how we are in the process of massively demonetizing the cost of living.)
that’s not demonetizing.. that’s just lower cost of living..
the word is great though.. our souls crave .. that we demonitize us..
Exponential Wisdom..expo techs creating abundance
and yet not outside the realm of money as os
go deeper
we can’t not
