Can’t quite grasp it’s already been 3 years since we lost David Graeber .. I’ll do my best to honour his memory tomorrow by talking about our work together, and where some of my thoughts have been going since

the reason why I love Mozart’s requiem, besides its beauty, is that it’s a choral work mostly written by Mozart’s friends after his death, and apart from the Dies Irae nobody really knows who wrote what.

reducing freedoms to largely transactional powers.. 3 freedoms we define aren’t individual freedoms.. freedoms in individualistic forms can morph into dom forms.. w coercion to enforce them.. nor are we talking abstract.. we’re talking concrete social freedoms that enable all others.. t

to me.. these are cancerous distractions.. oi
all 3 freedoms.. move away, disobey, build new social world.. if such freedoms existed till relatively recently.. how should we imagine the greater part of human history.. before domination..

you may ask.. how is it possible to study freedom in past societies?.. answer.. archeologists experience no difficulty studying domination and control using same evidence..
some time after david died i discovered something strange.. conceptual scaffold to hang our 3 freedoms.. came from writing of nietches.. specifically the 3 metamorphosis as came down mtn.. convey conceptual problems we’re grappling w here
neitchs metamorphosis changes occur.. freedom will it capture.. to create new lion can’t do.. but to create space for others to create freedom.. lion can do if like a child.. it can make a new beginning and start again
not yet scrambled ness.. 1 yr to be 5 again.. et al
doe is a project of reclaiming time and making space for other values.. can’t confine to last few centuries of history
to me.. any of it.. cancerous distractions
whole spaces of past supposedly well defined.. et al.. farming, kingship, democracy.. all are open once again to new interp.. flush of new info rushing in from all over globe..
evidence of diff (past) doesn’t speak for itself.. evidence w/o testimony.. always..

graeber can’t know law: one of the most important things all humans really do have in common: the fact that we all have to come to grips, to one degree or another, with what we cannot know et al
and too.. that knowing ness is a cancerous distraction
society has been so simple to be understandable to own peoples.. no matter how far back we wish to go.. past actors of own social reality would itself would have been very far from complete/total.. in that we remove humanity..
by resisting such thought.. of.. ‘we’ve lost all freedom’.. may be way out (paraphrase)

right.. thru spiritual/cultural/history practices.. messiness of family histories et al.. that’s question close to my own heart.. one of most destructive things about nationalism.. it excludes brutally any who want to hang on to any of their id.. psych extremely damaging.. told your experiences don’t count.. important to recup those parts of jewish/other traditions which go against what is being claimed.. and to remind people/self that you’re totally part of all those other traditions as well.. and desenting from redaction of that tradition.. you’re acting in good faith with that tradition..
crucial.. goes right back to roots of anthro project.. how these come out of relationships/households.. the whole topic of kinship in anthro could be reimagined much more ambitiously..t so absolutely central questions.. would love to hear your thoughts on it.. kind of materialism (that keeps people from being free) which is a form of idealism.. not really materialism.. not (asked if really interest in material facts.. but in material forces that conform into modes of production.. that is the ultimate idealism.. problem w it.. knowing all we know now.. it just doesn’t work.. so *entire dichotomy between materialism and idealism is beside the point.. what we need to be doing is rethinking what we even mean by materialism.. bookchins.. ecology of freedom.. on how somehow that doesn’t count.. what is often meant by materialism is exactly the vulgar materialism marx himself was critical of.. i wouldn’t accept the criticism that our work is idealist..
*and/or just trying something legit diff.. ie: a nother way.. for a global detox leap.. for (blank)’s sake
