__________

candid interview 2015:

people stereotype you immediately according to what they see you in

what i like.. taking something we don’t talk about and treating it in a day to day manner

11 min – your personal life is not what celebrity is about.. your work is..

12 min – on taking my picture w/o asking.. just ask..

13 min – what really knocks me out.. constantly putting on an image of what we think people should like of us.. when all of that is stripped down and it’s just you… do you know how hard it is to be honest in this world..

___________

2012 – understanding identity

if i figure it out.. i’ll let you know.. right now i have no idea (of identity).. basically my skin is white and my heart is brown

2 min – i was always trying to be what everyone else wanted me to be.. the way i protected myself was by being a clown.. that was my barrier.. not showing my insecurities.. painfully shy

3 min – on becoming an actress – it was a long struggle, ie: convincing my mother i was not insane…

i don’t take myself seriously..

5 min – at drama school in london.. i didn’t know who i was.. where are you from.. i don’t have an answer for that..

i knew.. the one thing i was really hungry about.. was telling stories.. becoming somebody else.. in that.. you start to understand somebody else.. acting is therapy.. you go into someone else’s mind and discover things.. you feel a lot less distant from people... at first so easy to judge just by looking.. taking acting seriously you break that down and see the people

8 min – i believe in doing too much work/research.. to much info.. and then i let it go on set. ultra prepared.. then wait for the surprise…via others

9 min – i noticed i only write when i’m depressed, bored or unemployed… it comes out of a need to .. get stuff out.. it’s not really something i do for somebody else.. i just get it out of my system

10 min – reading poem – we are the people of the world.. we are you… an army of sheep.. we are nameless so we can be shameless… typing thoughts borrowed from a borrower.. pasted.. thoughts we copy/copyright… thoughts we’re not thinking alone… people write about it.. but if someone is actually doing it no one gives a shit… our self worth rests on the opinions of others.. the obedient payers of taxes.. we are to blame we should be ashamed… we could go far.. if we just stopped being so we..

12 min – i don’t wish anything to happen… i’m terrible at planning and i don’t want to predict.. i feel everyone is afraid of facing themselves most of the time.. we’re always being people for somebody else….. finding something you’re passionate about is a way to be truthful with self.. japanese saying: there’s a nother day coming.. we’re too busy judging rather than concentrating on what’s in front of us..

most people are other people.. ness

____________

2014 – on abuse

it’s just so out there it shouldn’t be ignored.. official stats – 53% – we know that’s not all..

3 min – not so important to publicize it.. but to deal with it.. make it not a taboo.. children feeling they will be judged..

6 min – my question.. is why are people doing this.. 50% are people you know are related to – so why abusing in the first place.. a social question of repression of not being able to express things.. really important that we address that as well.. an awareness that certain things are talked about.. ie: like a child has broken arm.. should go to parent and say.. i have a broken arm.. same w abuse.. removing taboo of talking about it

7 min – every experience you go through shapes you as a person.. it’s also how you choose to go ahead with it.. how you choose to use it.. for me.. my writing/acting.. as long as there are spaces for people to do that.. not everyone has that..

In January ..video ..attacking the ‘violence and brutality’ in the approach of media and society towards crimes against women. .. Koechlin said her poem titled Printing Machine, ..talks about the “violence and brutality” that women face in India. We are flooded by an onslaught of objectifying and horrific news reports and imagery that have desensitised us. It is only when we look at these reports in totality do we realise what our Indian heritage and culture have come to, and how we have come to be at the mercy of printing machines.”

So the stereotype breaks as soon as you do it.”

Though rooting for Everywoman, Koechlin prefers to call herself a humanist over a feminist, urging people to celebrate “Equal Day” instead of a day for women.
