We are collectively experiencing the most significant single evolution in mapping since someone first scratched plans on papyrus. One relatively recent and very simple intervention, made possible by the lamination together of three or four different kinds of technology, has completely changed what a map is, what it means, what we can do with it.
It’s this: that for the very first time in human history, our maps tell us where we are on them.
for the very first time in human history, our maps tell us where we are on them.
an entirely different kind of artifact.. an ultra map… becomes something more indexable… something that points directly with almost one to one scale – the map and the world
removes the map from the order of abstraction.. so now we can
1\evaluate its other truth claims
what quantities/values show up in that representation..
2\ hold other representation to same standards
3\ if every map corresponds directly to the world that i observe.. then i am somewhere to be found on every map
5 min – changes the use/meaning of a map from something like navigation toward something like real time decision support.
like voting et al can be – more a conversation

we’re moving through the map not the territory.. we’ve become the blue dot. ..
foggy space.. the buildings/features.. might appear on no map..
to say that we’re even here anymore begins to become subject to question..
mark wiser – the most profound technologies are those which disappear
with ultra mapping.. and w/how readily this radical change has slipped beneath the surface of our daily awareness.. that the most profound cultural shifts might be those which escape notice entirely
you are here.. now unfolding in all kinds of dimensions..

perhaps tech redefining – your are here – may get us closer-to/back-to/beyond we are here\ness – to being in the moment.. to noticing more what’s right in front of us..
have/need ness… as a different sort of singularity (ie: commons, oikos, haeccities, ginormous small, document everything, ness..).
perhaps making many of our man made constructs/technologies (as we know them) irrelevant.. ie: money, politics, school..
