Trump did what Bernie almost did: he rode a wave of populism straight into the White House with a big F U to the whole two party system. (http://twitter.com/ASE/status/796314055556403200?s=17)

“I may be an Arab with a Muslim name and brown skin, but I’m a lot of other things. But as an Arab journalist in particular, I’ve had to endure what I would call hateful distractions, in which people I’m interviewing often mirror Trump’s own vitriolic behavior. I’ve been told to go back to where I came from live on air (to which of course, I answer, “Where? Brooklyn?”). But in all seriousness the biggest adjustment has been to broaden my own horizons in terms of the limited way I used to view civil rights, discrimination and stories of inequality. I’ve learned so much about other groups’ struggles and my own compounded sense of identity and it has informed how I approach my work

The best and perhaps only advice I would give is to spend time with yourself, interrogate your perceptions and don’t ever lose touch with your inner child.

You know when it feels like you are children bc it is your inner children that are what is flirting rather than your egos? That’s such a refreshing feeling. (http://twitter.com/ASE/status/952178067593678848?s=17)

Last week I gave a speech @WhatDesignCanDo about journalism as activism & how headlines are designed by WSJ, Wash Post, NYT to obfuscate when Israel kills unarmed civilians. This week, the passive voice & omitting of fundamental facts continues by @nytimes. Shame. https://t.co/pSRZ8gJtIf

#Hiraeth is a short film about Hasan, an Iraqi refugee, played by me. Told by way of conversation, this humanizing story reveals some of the inner complexities of living outside one’s home country and highlights the struggle many refugees face when trying to make decisions in the best interest of their family. #Hiraeth, true to its definition, is about more than mere homesickness; it’s about a deep connection one feels to their homeland and a longing to return to a place which is impossible to return. Hiraeth will compel you to rethink about the meaning of “home”. #shortfilm #filmfestivals #actor #iraq #refugeeswelcome#refugees
