WHO ARE WE?
Starting with when Rachel Botsman co-authored What’s Mine Is Yours, we’ve spent the past four years passionately building a shared understanding of the enormous social, economic and environmental potential of collaborative consumption. We’ve been to every continent (except Antarctica, though penguins have potential) to work with, learn from, and create a global network for entrepreneurs, businesses and governments. Learn more about who’s involved here.

tedsummit 2016 – We’ve stopped trusting institutions and started trusting strangers

we all know trust is fundamental.. but when it comes to trusting people..something profound is happening..

tech creating new mech’s enabling us to trust unknown people/co’s/ideas and yet at same time.. trust in institutions is collapsing.. so what’s happening here..

bla bla car – on deciding via how much a person talks.. bla… bla bla…. bla bla bla..

challenging people to take a trust leap… something diff to way we’ve always done it

trust – gap between you and unknown..

for you to leap to a place of certainty.. you need a force to pull you over the gap.. and that force is trust.. an illusive concept yet we depend on it for our lives to function

a word we use a lot w/o really thinking about what it means/works

100s of defns of trust.. most .. reduced to some kind of risk assessment of how likely things will go right

i don’t like this defn of trust .. makes it sound rational/predictable.. and doesn’t get to human essence of what it enables us to do and how it empowers us to connect with other people..

i define trust as a confident relationship to the unknown..

ok then.. sounds unconditional..

unique capacity to cope w uncertainty.. human beings are remarkable at taking trust leaps..

common pattern that people follow – the trust stack..

in beginning level – have to trust (idea)… 2nd level – confidence in (platform)… 3rd level – using little bits of info to determine if other party is trustworthy (person)

ugh

trust enables change/innovation

whether we can better understand major disruption/changes.. thru the lens of trust..

trust only evolved in 3 significant chapters: in local, institutional, and distributed

we’re starting to realize that institutional trust wasn’t built for the digital age.. forces many of us to rethink how trust is built/destroyed…

oy.. what about.. stands..thru ups/downs..  if we truly trust..

ie for how trust is changing: hanging towel in airbnb because of reputation..

? whoa.. what..?

trust is no longer top/down.. linear.. a new recipe for trust is emerging.. distributing among people and is accountability based.. only going to continue under blockchain

?

blockchain.. economists say – the great chain of being sure about things..

? so where is your… confidence with uncertainty..?

timestamped.. public recorded.. blockchain removes need for 3rd party.. so if go back to trust stack.. still have to trust idea/platform.. but not the other person..
