michel bauwens on the thing you can’t not do
via tweet [https://x.com/mbauwens/status/1840983099653701816]:
This is from a private email, but I don’t talk about the other person, but try to explain exactly where I am in my intellectual development, and what I am ‘trying’ to do. This is why I am sharing it. I don’t claim I have the capacity to achieve this, but this is what keeps me awake at night.
So here goes: “It would not be an easy task for me to explain how I come to a position where your work makes such an ‘extreme sense‘ <g>, but I’ll try, at least in short for now.
Social forces representing entropy and extropy are fighting each other, neutralizing each other into societal stagnation, and *the way forward must be some kind of synthesis, which recognizes both limits, but also the capacity to transcend these limits in some fashion or other. In other words, we cannot suppress the vital human characteristic of a need for ‘transcendence’ or even ‘immanent transcendence’,..t As Karatani would put it, humanity has perpetually tried to go back to mode A (gifting and commoning in kinship and convivial arrangements), via a mode D (updated commoning at a higher level of technology, and thereby bypassing, or transcending-including mode B and C (states and markets). So far, world religions were the vehicle for this, being born as survival modalities for proletarian forces in declining empires, until they were coopted for new phases of civilizational development as imperial churches. But the tech was lacking, and **my central argument is that this tech is no longer lacking..t
*need global detox leap
**there’s a legit use of tech (nonjudgmental exponential labeling) to facil the seeming chaos of a global detox leap/dance.. the unconditional part of left-to-own-devices ness.. for (blank)’s sake.. and we’re missing it ie: a sabbatical ish transition
So far, your work is the only one that even comes close to what I was looking for,
