i share a lot of songs by levi the poet story.. he’s kind of edgy ..part of his edginess when he was when he was 21 his father committed suicide.. his father struggled w mental illness.. story in a tract: 1st show he ever did.. his dad came and left crying.. levi spent years trying to figure out why his dad left crying.. he thought probably he and his mother felt pain having to hear him perform his pain.. pain they would have long to alleviate if they could.. if he would do a better job of letting him in.. after his dad died his mom shared more specifics on why he cried that night.. his first poem that night was about werewolves.. and his dad used to have nightmares as a child and the demons raged thru his mind.. and one night on range levi (about 5) and his sister were walking and saw dad silhouetted against the window and the waved and ran to meet him and when they got to door no where to be found.. so scared and ran back to mom.. and all their life they thought they had seen a ghost.. and this made it’s way into that poem levi shared called werewolves and his dad heard it for first time.. and the truth that night (his mom told him after his dad died) is that he was awake.. getting a glass of water looking out window and he was sick at the time (his cycle of depression every 5 yrs or so) so when he saw the kids and was too tired to greet them..
parents are the first ness et al
levi has this to say: ‘my dad went to his grave by the same demons i believed him to be in the window that night.. for all those years i could not understand why some things can damn us to silence when speaking out into the open could set us free.. i mean i know i do.. but i don’t.. i know i do the same things.. i know that guilt/shame and all of the what-ifs .. keep zippers across my lips while i curdle/rot inside.. convinced that forgiveness will not be mine.. cannot be mine.. i forgive my dad.. i groan at the thought of what is now such a trivial thing.. that could have been a passing side comment.. literally crushing life out of something.. but it’s taught me something.. i don’t get to decide what is trivial.. and honestly those affected by the kind of mental illness my father experienced get to decide what trivial is either.. trivialities can be razor blades.. i would like to plead with those of you with ears to hear to speak.. because silence is a noose and there are people likely the very people you are afraid of waiting/willing/wanting to help you remove that rope from your neck before the chair wobbles out from beneath it.. ‘
