This is the reason CNN’s Crossfire is no longer on the air. Jon Stewart shows up these two ignorant political show hosts… 2 against 1, on their own show, and brings to light how these shows “Hurt America.” Thank you Jon for always pointing out political hypocrisy. I hope continuing to broadcast this video of you helps your voice continue to be heard.

smacks a bit of Brand‘s interview, where he’s annoyed at their rudeness..

But she is but one courageous person. Fortunately for the world, there is no shortage of such brave, courageous individuals. In fact, there is an abundance of them, especially in poor, authoritarian countries. If you think Malala is rare, that is probably because you have not spent much time in such countries. Most Malala’s, however, go nameless, and are not made into Western celebrities.

Rosewater TRAILER 1 (2014) – Gael García Bernal, Jon Stewart

– – –

wikipedia small

Rosewater is an upcoming American drama film written and directed by Jon Stewart, based on the memoir Then They Came for Me by Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy. Bahari’s imprisonment is connected to an interview he conducted on The Daily Show in 2009; the authorities presented the interview as evidence that he was in communication with an American spy. Due to the content of the film, Stewart has been accused by Iran’s State TV of being funded by Zionists and working with the CIA. It is scheduled to be screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, and released in theaters on November 7, 2014.

plot:

In 2009, London-based journalist Maziar Bahari (Gael García Bernal) was detained in Iran for more than 100 days due to an interview regarding the country’s presidential election. Bahari was arrested, and while his pregnant fiancée waited for him, he spent five months at Evin Prison while being brutally interrogated.

Bahari was usually blindfolded when being interrogated and the sole distinguishing feature of his interrogator was that the interrogator smelled of rosewater.

april 2015 – why i quit the daily show:

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/apr/18/jon-stewart-why-i-quit-the-daily-show

Instead, he describes his decision to quit The Daily Show, the American satirical news programme he has hosted for 16 years, as something closer to the end of a long-term relationship. “It’s not like I thought the show wasn’t working any more, or that I didn’t know how to do it. It was more, ‘Yup, it’s working. But I’m not getting the same satisfaction.’”

He agrees that entering politics “is not my bag”: he’d rather make sense of the mess than get into it himself.

We’re bringing it on ourselves. And that’s the thing—al Qaeda, ISIS, they’re not shit compared to the damage we can do to ourselves on a regular basis.”

same day – interview with Malala:

love these people.. but i believe our focus on education is part of what’s killing us. Malala keeps talking of one voice.. and of getting voices out.. and of not waiting for someone else.. yet … perhaps waiting is what education is doing to us more than anything else. [noting especially her talking of – 2 more years till college – and – 1 month long exam – and when Jon talks of a 1 day exam and movie the rest of the time – Malala says she’d like to be here.]

this whole education will make us free or whatever is biting us… the education we’re practicing – and spending tons on.. and perpetuating on people in “developing” countries to crave – is not playing out that way. that education ness – is what’s getting in our way. keeping people silent.. immobile.. until – they get credentialed.. ged‘d. et al.

pretty amazingly/subtly ironic.. that Jon’s devastation of our cyclic corruption is soothed by Malala talking education.

we need to model another way. since we now can.

There are guys in my neighborhood that I love, that I respect, that I think have incredible qualities who are not afraid of Mexicans, and not afraid of Muslims, and not afraid of blacks. They’re afraid of their insurance premiums.

What makes us great, is: America is an anomaly in the world … his candidacy has animated that thought — that a multi-ethnic democracy is impossible.

America is not natural. Natural is tribal. We’re fighting against thousands of years of human behavior and history to create something that no one’s ever done. That’s what’s exceptional about America. This ain’t easy … it’s an incredible thing.
