Keep in your thoughts today everyone in the Twin Cities protesting the militarization, corporate welfare & lack of transparency that comes w/hosting the @SuperBowl. They march in 15 degree snowy weather. Badass. (

Reading this was a gut punch. I can’t imagine the emotional pain of family members impacted by this. Enjoy the game today!

Before the kickoff, remember what happens after the game. @fieldofvision unveils what the NFL doesn’t want you to see: #SBLII #SuperBowl (

How might we see the totality of this violence without just replaying the violence itself?

“The amphitheater was a politicized temple that housed the mythic reenactment of the cult of the Roman statehood. The death of a gladiator served as a foundation sacrifice that answered the crisis of empire, validating the Roman struggle for power…” -Alison Futrell

The NFL is facing a slow-motion concussion/CTE catastrophe, declining quality of play, domestic violence incidents, and declining youth participation. But they’re obsessing about anthem protests.
The owners and fans may love the game, but they hate most of the players. (

@lindaholmes @TheTattooedProf The idea that people pay money to watch other people give each other brain damage also is obscene. (

This is codifying racism into the game of American football to suppress free speech. The NFL–which receives $ to promote the military– is creating a game rule that specifically penalizes Black athletes’ protest of racism & police violence. NFL athletes are majority Black.

The NFL just want nfl players to respect the troops? —nigga America don’t even respect the troops. Do you see what happens to vets when they come back from war? If you don’t know, go visit your local homeless shelter. That’s a bunch of Bologna. They don’t gaf about the troops (

Chipaveli (@Chip_JusChillin) tweeted at 6:47 AM – 24 May 2018 :
@DamnJazAgain The NFL started getting paid by the US Military in 2009 to have the players on the field during the national anthem to promote the military and patriotism. Before that they didn’t have to participate. The NFL owners only care because it’s putting money in their pockets. (

Kaepernick took a knee of his own free will & choice & ended up sparking a protest movement so widespread & effective in its reach that it shook the entire white power structure. That’s when you know an oppressive power has weapons, but no moral standing
Original Tweet:

This is NOT about the anthem. It’s about using the NFL, a sport dominated by Black athletes, as a way to publicly reinforce white supremacy & racial caste. Message is directed at anyone who would dare challenge racism. It serves same purpose as whipping a slave while others watch

The NFL making players stand during the national anthem makes “the land of the free” part very ironic. (
