As a practitioner and experiential learner more so than an academic, Sue has gained important insights that guide her relationships and actions:

  • Education is a vehicle for personal, social and political change; no action is neutral in light of justice and equity.
  • To transform our world for the welfare of each other and the earth, it is essential to creative spaces in we engage together. Paulo Freire’s notion of education as “the practice of freedom” means to change what is to what can be and action arises from the tension between this reality and our vision.
  • We benefit greatly from authentic relationships that engage in meaningful dialogue and action, and it is through a reflective life together that we find answers to our questions.
  • Values, whether expressed implicitly or explicitly, shape our learning experiences and environments. Just, caring and diverse communities enhance our human experience.
