“It’s all about doing the right thing because it’s the right thing, not because someone is thanking you or because you’ll get recognition,” said Annie Johnston, 22, the youngest of Ronda Stryker’s three children.

Johnston said he appreciates his wife as a caring, compassionate person who also has a great sense of fun and lives life to the fullest.

“One thing that connects Ronda and I have is our desire to live with passion,” he said.

“My husband is the most generous person and he’s taught me and our children to be generous without being thanked,” Stryker said. “But it’s hard sometimes not to say, ‘That’s because of me.’ “

Megan Johnston, who plans a career in the nonprofit world, said one of the most important values her parents have instilled in their children is  doing good works for the right reasons.

“That’s been a huge lesson for me,” she said. “That you use your gifts because you want to make the world a better place, not because you want credit. That’s something they’ve always talked about with us a lot.”
