Neola is one of idec 2013’s coffee talkers:
I am especially interested to hear how community organizers are building movements at the intersection of education, community involvement, food policy, and poverty. I am also really excited to be in the company of dedication to changing the world right now.
What matters to you?
I am passionate about changing the present. Growing up in Mississippi kept my mind in a place of waiting and wanting for the future to arrive so everything would be better, be equal, be good for all. Waiting for it to get better is not good enough and equality is not enough. I am passionate about the power of organizing voices to make change happen now, to build something to last for tomorrow, and to strive for equity.
And while we do all these amazing and incredibly hard things together, let’s be kind to each other and listen deeply. Critical mass is the key to the change we want to see, but that’s harder to grasp if we don’t see each other.
