After graduating from Hamilton College, I studied experimental filmmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute before moving to Los Angeles to work as a film editor. I received an M.F.A. in Film Editing from the American Film Institute in 1998 and have since worked in documentary and fiction film as a director, producer, cameraperson and editor.
I have greatly enjoyed learning about such varied subjects as professional poker players, Mexican Crypto-Jews, female Mariachis, women in the Southern Baptist Ministry, local politicians, burned out physicians, African- American church choir singers, theater people, activists young and old, Swiss kindergarteners, and an eccentric movie theater projectionist.
School’s Out, about a forest kindergarten in Switzerland, premiered in early 2013 at the Providence Children’s Film Festival, won Best Short at the Colorado Environmental Film Festival and continues to screen at numerous film festivals and organized screenings around the world. I am currently in post-production on a documentary about re-thinking the role of art in education.
