BerkShares

berkshares – identifies the local economy – create a currency that reflects the value of a place, that’s democratically run, can meet community needs, for productive purposes….

not for consumer loans – but for productive loans… interest free, with one time fee for each loan to help support the program…. there’s no cost to the money – since it’s not coming down from the fed

Local Currency Program Director, Schumacher Center for a New Economics
Alice Maggio grew up in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, and attended Mt. Everett Regional High School.  She graduated from Wesleyan University in 2010 with a B.A. in Sociology and French Studies. After college Alice went on to bake pies in Brooklyn, teach English in the Alps, and cook Basque food in Manhattan before coming home to work at the Schumacher Center for a New Economics, where she uses her local knowledge to promote the use and expand the scope of BerkShares.  She is working to demonstrate that by putting financing tools squarely in the hands of citizens—in the form of local currencies—we can democratize our economy.
