Susan is one of idec 2013’s coffee talkers:

Susan is Director of the Museum Center for Learning.

After a decade of teaching in public elementary schools, she joined Opal School staff as a teacher researcher, providing leadership to Opal’s literacy and integrated project approaches for over 10 years.

She currently oversees the research, documentation and professional development initiatives of Opal School and Portland Children’s Museum.

Susan is a writer and speaks internationally on the subjects of inquiry-based learning, arts education, building learning communities, and the tremendous potential of teachers and children working together.

I hope to share some of the stories of the work that happens at Opal School and some of the things we’re learning about what it means to be a teacher researcher playing the game of life alongside competent and resourceful and curious children.
