RT @fredsultan: Thanks @subirats9 for sharing the challenges of a cultural policy #commons based for #cities with @ambrosi16043
no longer simply equality of opportunities but also equality of condition because we have to compensate for what is not the same (equal) in society. If you say “equal opportunities”, that everyone has access to cultural facilities, to libraries, you are disregarding the fact that the starting conditions of people are not the same, this is the great contribution of Amartya Sen, no? You have to compensate for unequal starting situations because otherwise you depoliticize inequality and consider that inequality is the result of people’s lack of effort to get out of poverty. So equality yes, but the approach is different..t
imagine rather.. equity: everyone getting a go everyday
And we must incorporate the idea of diversity as a key element in the recognition of people and groups on the basis of their specific dignity..t
so in very broad lines I would say that if health and education were the basic redistributive policies of the 20th century, in the 21st century we must incorporate culture as a basic redistributive policy..t
perhaps.. incorp cure ios city..
Because before, the job market had very specific demands for the education sector: it knew very well what types of job profiles it needed because there was a very Taylorist logic to the world of work – what is the profile of a baker, of a plumber, of a miller?
..much to do with culture, with things that allow you to acquire that backpack of basic tools that will help you navigate in a much more uncertain environment.
And for me, to find the right connection between culture and education is very important ..t
if equity is everyone getting a go every day.. redefining public education becomes revolution of everyday life.. aka: global equity
how do we explore what we need to know in order to be able to act..t
whereas the traditional education system didn’t postulate creativity, it postulated your ability to learn what someone else had decided you needed to study.
It’s art, it is culture that allows you to play in that field much more easily …
Cities are spaces where things can change for better (interview 2018 – 12 min)
q: symbolic about what you are doing in barcelona
a: 1\ this transformation of capitalism towards a kind of platform based monopolistic digital capitalism.. states are caught in the logics of austerity and debt policies.. and they have to fact future of uncertainty
to whom do you direct welfare.. normally sent to nation states.. borders et al
on the other hand .. cities have a diff characteristic because they were born to be open.. therefore cities seem a space in which some things can change
3 min – fro 2015 – 1\ recover institutions for the people 2\ in creasing ineq – recover that 3\ build more participatory democracy.. not delegative.. make more people involved.. co creation of decisions 4\ end corruption
4 min – for me most important has occurred in 2nd point
5 min – the point we have most trouble.. getting institutions to be more participatory
speaking of co production is to speak of processes of the inclusion of collective intelligence in these dynamics.. and this is not easy
perhaps better focus: augmenting interconnectedness (rather than intelligence)
6 min – (on city helping w refugees) in some cases the city of barcelona has bought buildings outright to avoid inspections; mobilizing people via twitter to avoid evictions..
8 min – should be bottom up.. based on meetings and creation.. something that could be viewed as a process that progressed from below
9 min – living wage, housing, children’s ed, energy, water.. we could start w these element which are clearly *transversal/global..affecting all parts of the world
*really..? i think each of them are really messing w us.. esp: earn a living ness as disruption to ecosystem.. begs a process sans money; school; energy.. ie: what we need most is the energy of 7bn alive people
10 min – connecting agenda to make transition more rapid
11 min – i believe there is no contradiction between rural and urban.. they are complementary if we work w a certain idea that is not zero sum
